Light field microscopy session at SPAOM 2020

SPAOM 2020 will feature a full session on light field microscopy. This session will take place, activities such as conferences, presentations, digital exhibitions, and workshops.

The 2nd session, which will celebrate on November 25, will have the participation of Dr. Manuel Martínez and Dr. Genaro Saavedra, members of the 3D Imaging & Display Laboratory of the Universidad de Valencia and scientific advisors from DoitPlenoptic. In the same way, the scientists and specialists in light field technology attending the congress are as keynote speaker Laura Waller University of California, Berkeley, as invited speakers Robert Prevedel from EMBL-Heidelberg, Kevin O’Holleran University of Cambridge, and Lei Tian from CISLab-Boston University.

Light field microscopy technology

Integral imaging, or the plenoptic concept, is a technology of substantial interest with many diverse applications including entertainment, medicine, security, defense, and transportation.

Light field microscopy is an application of integral photography, which offers to microscopists the possibility of observing the samples, almost in real-time, reconstructed in 3D from many different perspectives[1]. But, Why is three-dimensional live microscopy important?

Three-dimensional live microscopy allows the comprehension of some biomedical processes owing to the ability to obtain fast stacks of deep images, which is important for the study of high-speed dynamics of biological functions, or the response of biological systems and tissues to rapid external perturbations [1].

You will be able to learn more about this technology from the hand of the most important lightfield microscopy scientists.

The topics of the 2nd session are:

• Dark-field imaging through Fourier light field microscopy by Dr. Manuel Martínez.
• Visualizing dynamic biological processes using light field microscopy by Dr. Roberto Prevedel.
• Single-Molecule Light Field Microscopy by Kevin O’Holleran.
• Large-scale high-resolution 3D Widefield Fluorescence Imaging with a Computational Miniature Mesoscope by Lei Tian.
• Computational 3D fluorescence microscopy by Laura Waller.

It will culminate with a Workshop: Light field Microscopy directed by Dr. Genaro Saavedra, Manuel Martínez
